Ujjain, Feb 11 The International Society For Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) on Saturday inaugurated its newly-constructed temple, built at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore, in the presence of devotees, including Alfred Ford of Ford Motors and popular Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee.

ISKCON had taken the decision to set up the temple and later a centre in Ujjain as Lord Krishna and Balaram were believed to have studied in Guru Sandipni Ashram situated in Ujjain.

The head of the religious body, Bhakti Charu Swami and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and present Commerce Minister Babulal Gaur and a large number of ISKCON members were present on the occasion.

Gaur appealed to ISKCON to set up a similar temple in Bhopal and assured that the state government would provide the necessary land for the purpose to ISKCON.

Speaking on the occasion, Rani Mukherjee thanked ISKCON for inviting her to the grand ceremony and recalled her family’s long association with the group.

Rani sported a beaming smile when Gaur addressed her as “Rani Gopi Mukherjee” and later a rare combination of beauty and brains.

The actress, who was wearing a green sari, urged Gaur to watch her upcoming film, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna .

Karan Johar ’s film shows Rani (married to Abhishek Bachchan in the film) having an affair with Shah Rukh Khan (married to Preity Zinta ). Amitabh Bachchan plays a flamboyant character in the film.

Thats very nice to know about a new centre.

But IMHO, giving so much importance to Rani Mukherjee in the post is somewhat inappropriate :)

Ashish, Rani Mukherjee shares a special relation to me and to the devotee community of ISKCON, she is sister of my teacher’s husband. My teachers whole family is part of ISKCON and thus I know her family closely and also her association with ISKCON.

    Sorry again for that :D

    What’s it about?

Modern science has generally been directed toward investigating
the material world, excluding consideration of the conscious
scientist who is essential to the whole process, since, of
course, the very existence of the scientific endeavor itself
depends upon consciousness. Complete scientific knowledge must
consequently include both objective science and subjective
    consciousness.

In addition to other programs, Bhaktivedanta Institute’s Science
and Scientist Newsletter is humbly offered to inspire scientists
and scholars to contribute their sincere efforts toward
developing this grand synthesis. The result will be valuable not
only for helping to better understand the “hard” problems of
science such as the nature and origin of life and the cosmos, the
mind-brain connection, artificial intelligence, etc. But the
pressing problems of ethics in science, world peace, and
interfaith dialog will also benefit from a more inclusive
    scientific worldview.

In our modern era science and religion are the predominating
influences determining the fate of mankind. Promoting and
developing a culture of harmony between such diverse fields has
the potential to expand our conception of reality and advance
human knowledge in the new millennium, in which it is said the
study of life will be pre-eminent. Let us welcome the dawn of
that new epoch with great hope and determined endeavor.
